Before entering Taiwan, you must obtain a passport issued by your government. You will then need to visit a Republic of China (R.O.C.) overseas mission to apply for a visa to enter Taiwan. The visa application will require a visa document from Feng Chia (see section below) and documents detailing your financial support while at Feng Chia.
It is recommended that you allow ample time to obtain the appropriate visa. The R.O.C. government has indicated that the processing of visas can be slowed due to the need to ensure national security. Please check with the R.O.C. overseas mission nearest you for the exact processing time.
A formal letter of admission from Feng Chia does not guarantee a visa. As an applicant for a temporary, non-immigrant visa to enter the R.O.C., it is important that you present all of the required documents (visa document, proof of funding, photographs, application fees, etc.). Please keep in mind that you will have a brief interview with a consular officer. You must be able to prove your eligibility for a non-immigrant visa by presenting credible financial information along with your visa document.
You should also be prepared to answer questions regarding the length of your intended stay in the R.O.C. and how you will use your academic experience in the R.O.C. when you return to your home country. Consular officials expect to see evidence of your ties with your home country, such as family, property, employment, bank accounts, etc. If the consular official determines that you are not eligible for a non-immigrant visa because you have not presented sufficient evidence that you intend to return home, there is usually no recourse to the visa denial unless you are able to present new information.
The dates on the visa stamp in your passport do not indicate how long you may remain in the R.O.C. Be sure to place your visa document and financial documentation together with your passport and carry them with you as you will need to show them to the immigration inspector at the port of entry into the R.O.C.
There are serious penalties for visitors to the R.O.C. who do not present the proper documents at the port of entry, who have not maintained their visa status, who do not have a valid visa or who are not eligible to apply for a landing visa. It is essential that you have the proper documents to present to the immigration inspector when you enter the R.O.C. |
