While you are in the R.O.C. it will be your responsibility to know when your visa documents will expire and to work with the OIA to apply for any extensions in a timely manner.
Regulations regarding employment and permitted length of stay vary according to the visa category. It is therefore important to understand the regulations pertaining to each visa type. Do not rely on advice about visas from friends and family; although their intentions may be good, the information they provide may be outdated or inaccurate. Students applying from abroad, who have received a formal admissions offer letter, should apply at the nearest R.O.C. embassy, consulate, representative office or other agency authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a visa to enter Taiwan. Visitor visas and resident visas are issued to students depending on the length of their study.
Students admitted to a degree program will need to apply for a resident visa. If you enter Taiwan on a visitor visa, remember to change your status to a resident visa immediately after completing the University registration process. The visa categories are described below.
